Where Can I Find Big Lollipops In Toronto
After much back on the correct post
there lately to write much more. Not pass through the major events over which one wants to write you. No spectacular dreams.
I also use my energy more for my novel project to which I in Future here maybe something will post.
But that's not so blank looks, I wanted to me try to review.
Today: "The Night Angel Trilogy" by Brent Weeks
I had the first book "The Way of Shadows" , bought in August last year. It was added, the cover that has addressed me first. Above all, actually the third part of the .
was now after it bought, like so many books, some time with me on the shelf while I read other books. When I then beginning January in my personal library for reading looking for my hospital stay, it was clear to me that I need a bit of stock. Say, a trilogy would be perfect. And I chose it.
But the content:
It is in the books is their first work, what I think but do not really notice. It is, as you may already be thinking, a fantasy trilogy, and thus contains many typical plot elements. Assassin as protagonists are not necessarily new. Does it not necessarily. Novels live on more than one origniellen Plotwurzel.
tells the story Kylars (at the beginning of the story Azoth). An orphan who grows up in the street in the slums of an impoverished, corrupt kingdom. In order to escape the brutal beating he seeks advice on Durzo Blinten, the largest "Wetboy" * of all time, go with him in teaching. But
Durzo Blinten does not want an apprentice. Now it would of course not a novel, if the story would end there, and so are Durzo the boy finally a chance. If he kills the Council and thus proves that he has the will, he will receive them. He gives him five days.
This is about the beginning of the story, but of course further develops the whole. The first book is about his Asubildung and his love for a girl who can not love it, because feelings make him vulnerable. The whole trilogy is about his Double life. On one side of the boy who has a good heart, on the other a hired killer who knows no mercy. And of course it is about a major threat, which threatens to destroy the world, at least as Kylar knows them. Linguistically
are the books on a solid level. It reads well, but, except for a few passages, not written very poetically. It must also not at all. The story is well told, aptly described the scenery and the people are vibrant, multi-layered and wide-ranging. The author knows how to keep the suspense.
And, as a small note: the chapters are quite short, which is often several times in succession "still fast an extra chapter reads. "So I got the good 2000 pages during read of 5 weeks, which is a lot in my reading habits right (the first week when I was in the hospital, I'm at the end anyway not so much done).
What I find most fascinating is the trilogy has been the environment. The city, growing up in the Kylar is so full of "Filth", which means that the author is not afraid to describe human abyss. Not only is the murder of innocent is discussed, but also power-intrigues, sadistic violence, abuse, revenge, greed ... eh .. oh, well, read for yourself. It describes such Szenerieen not detailed (and that's a good thing) but it is realistic made on what may have implications for such acts.
What else .. a GO! Dorian and his impending Wanhsinn.
Conclusion:
If you like fantasy, look beyond the dashing hero, elves, orcs, etc, yet epic, who is socially critical stories may not have wanted to, if you love power, but will not renounce humor that can safely access.
The trilogy does not add to the world, but they certainly do inspire.
